Going Topless!
The convertible top is a disaster… it was already in bad shape when I bought this car in 2009, but now it’s much worse. I decided that this year is the year it gets replaced. But what a can of worms it opens up to do this job! To do it right, every underlying structure associated with the top needs to be restored first. It’s not going to be cheap either, even though I plan to do all the work myself! My estimate is that I’ll spend close to $2,000, because it’s not just the top itself that I need to buy, but all the weatherstripping, top well boot, top pads, paint, primer, bushings, pump/motor, and who knows what else?
Here’s the top as it looked just before I removed it. In the next post, I’ll reveal what I found after it all came off… it ain’t pretty!
Yeah, convertibles are a monster when it comes to restoring neglected material! These were driven year round for sure!
At least it’s not like this 59 Buick here!…..
