Starter Rebuild
Since the original starter was working, but did need a new Bendix, Marty ordered up a replacement. But, after opening up the starter it looked pretty rusty inside, so we opted to just buy a complete rebuilt unit rather than mess with it. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to obtain one for a ’60 Buick.. sheesh, what gives, it’s not like its an obscure 50 year old car! Anyway, we were given a unit from some other 60’s era GM product, not sure which and told to simply swap the snout from the original unit to this one and we’d be good to go.
Sadly that wasn’t going to work. The armature was a different length! So, we cleaned up the original armature and used that too… at this point, how much of this is really a rebuilt starter? Oh well, let’s just get this back together!
I gotta say it… this is really freakin educational to me!
Thanks,
Guy
