Trunk Evaluation
After clearing all the junk out of the trunk, things don’t look too bad! The floor seems pretty solid, but without peeling off all the lining I won’t know for sure. I didn’t want to peel it up yet because I’ll need to do it carefully so I can save the original to use as a pattern. It appears to be a fabric of some kind, backed with a cotton-like insulation. SMS Auto Fabrics sent me a sample of this stuff along with the other interior fabrics/vinyls so It will just be a matter of making patterns from the originals and cutting some new stuff to fit. As far as I know, nobody reproduces the cardboard for the trunk area, so I’ll have to figure something out for that. Maybe glue the reproduction fabric to some hand made cardboard replacements? Maybe spend a few days with a Sharpie and a case of Mountain Dew?
Hi Dave I was surprised to see some one else restoring a 60 Buick trunk interior. I have had the backing boards die cut from my originals. I made an extra set and that might be some help to you. I glued the fabric to boards and learned some things the hard way. Judging from your pictures you are missing some off the trim panels. I could make patterns from mine. My car is Electra 225, so you might have to trim.
Hi George, you are correct, some of my cardboard trunk panels are missing. It will be a while before I get around to restoring the trunk… are you planning to have more sets made and offer them on the web? Seems like I saw a pre-cut panel kit that were already available on the net but I can’t find it again.
George or Dave: I have a 1960 Buick Electra 225 convertible. I would greatly appreciate patterns so I can have the boards die cut for my trunk. Please feel free to email me at JONOSSO@AOL.COM Thanks!!!!
George and/or Dave, I am on the same boat as Jonathan, but I have a 1960 Buick LeSabre 4dr Sedan. I would also greatly appreciate patterns so I can have the boards die cut for my trunk. Please feel free to email me at jtwmj84@gmail.com Thanks!!!!
George, Dave,
I just finished restoring the trunk of my 1960 Invicta convertible. C.A.R.s Inc. (www.oldbuickparts.com) carries the pre-cut trunk boards. They are not the hounds tooth pattern, but you can find the material and glue it on to the boards.
Good luck,
Dave
